ALTOONA, Iowa --Despite the cold weather and a field location change due to the first snowfall of the season, the women's soccer team played its best in their final regular-season game, defeating Manhattan Christian, 5-0.
In the first half, the Eagles managed to maintain great possession of the ball, keeping it just outside the opposing team's goal. Fourteen shots were attempted by Faith before the first goal, most of which were saved by the Thunder goalie, Hailey Culp.
Twenty-one minutes in, Lyndi Shepard made the first goal of the game with an assist by Abby Zollinger. Five minutes later, Aubree Smith scored (assisted by Lyndi Shepard), and Allison Yuan tacked on the third goal of the half with the help of Abigail Speichinger. The Eagles played a strong offense and did an amazing job of keeping the ball away from their goal for the remainder of the first period. They ended the first period with a score of 3-0.
Just two minutes into the second half, Jessica Frerichs (unassisted) scored on Manhattan. The girls continued to play hard and hold possession throughout the rest of the game. Lyndi Shepard scored her second goal of the game with an assist from Allison Yuan. The game ended with a solid win for the Eagles at 5-0.
The Eagles' hard work and success this season earned them the number one seed in the NCCAA DII Regionals. The Eagles will be playing the winner of Maranatha and Providence on November 9th at 11:30 a.m. with the right to advance to the national tournament.
