MOORE, Oklahoma—With its ninth win of the season, the Faith Eagles women's soccer team (9-4) has broken the school record for most wins in a season. The previous mark was set in 2017. The nation's number three ranked team still has three more regular season games to add to its record-setting total.
Friday vs. Ecclesia
The women tied the school record on Friday evening with a win over Ecclesia College in Springdale, Arkansas.
Faith scored almost as quickly as humanly possible with a goal in the first nine seconds of the game from Lyndi Shepard, assisted by Jessica Frerichs. Exactly 17 minutes later, the Eagles struck again with a goal from Abigail Speichinger, assisted by Shepard.
The Eagles held a 2-0 lead midway through the second half when Shepard scored her second goal of the game and gave Faith a three-goal cushion that held as the final score (3-0).
Faith's defense allowed just two shots on goal the entire match, while the Eagles' offense accounted for 15 shots on goal.
Saturday vs. Randall University
On Saturday, the Eagles made the three-hour trek to Moore, Oklahoma, to face the Randall University Saints.
Saturday's contest was much more competitive and much-more high stress for the Eagles with the school record on the line.
Molleigh Adams-Freund broke a scoreless game at the 18:40 mark with a goal, assisted by Lydia Trygstad. The lead remained 1-0 through halftime.
Early in the second half, the Saints made things interesting with a goal at the 49:11 mark to tie the game at one. Ten minutes later, Lyndi Shepard scored her first goal of the game to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead, and the school record was in sight.
At the 70:47 mark, Abby Zollinger gave the Eagles a two-goal lead with her fifth goal of the season. Faith's defense held the Saints scoreless the remainder of the game for the 3-1 win and the new school record for most wins in a season. With the three goals, the Eagles also broke the school record for most goals and points in a season, which was set in 2017.
Up Next
The Eagles have a full week off, before traveling for their final road game of the year in Lincoln, Nebraska, against Nebraska Christian on Monday, October 21.
