Eagles Roll for Third Straight Win on Senior Night
ANKENY, Iowa—Lyndi Shepard scored her second consecutive hat trick for the Eagles, who rolled to a 10-1 victory on Senior Night at Faith. It was also the second consecutive time that Faith has scored 10 goals, and the third win in a row for the Eagles, who have outscored opponents by the score of 22-2 during the three-game winning streak. The Eagles honored senior middle forward Jessica Frerichs as the lone senior following the game. Frerichs finished the evening with two assists.
Molleigh Adams-Freund got things going for the Eagles with a goal at the 8:07 mark, her first of the season. Lyndi Shepard answered two minutes later with the first of her four goals. Shepard has scored eight goals in the last three games.
Abigail Speichinger made it 3-0 before Nebraska Christian scored its first and only goal of the game midway through the first half. The play of the game came two minutes later when Abby Zollinger took a pass from Shepard, dribbled it toward the goal, then switched the ball from her right foot to her left and kicked it in with her left foot.
Following the Zollinger gem, Shepard poured in two more goals, and Speichinger added her second of the game to blow open the game, 7-1, before halftime.
The Eagles scored three more times in the second half, getting goals from Zollinger, Aubree Smith, and Shepard. Faith managed 28 shots on goal, while allowing only six for the Sentinels. Faith improved its record to 7-3 with the win.
The Eagles are averaging 4.0 goals per game, which ranks #1 in NCCAA Division II. Defensively, they are allowing just 1.10 goals per game which also ranks #1 in NCCAA Division II. Faith has four players in the top ten in scoring, nationally: Shepard(#2); Speichinger(#4); Smith(#7); Zollinger(#10).
