WATERTOWN, Wisconsin—The fourth-ranked Faith Eagles women's soccer team traveled to Watertown, Wisconsin, on Thursday to face the fifth-ranked Maranatha Sabercats. The Eagles were searching for their first-ever win at Maranatha, but came up just short in a well-fought, low-scoring battle, 1-0.
The Eagles did a great job of controlling the ball much of the first half, with several shots on goal that couldn't quite find their way into the net. Every time it seemed the Eagles had a fast-break, or an opening, the Sabercats' defense recovered and closed the gaps at just the last second.
The game was scoreless until the 20-minute mark when a one-on-one scramble at the net resulted in a Maranatha goal that was placed perfectly in the corner of the net. It would prove to be the only goal scored by either team.
Faith finished with ten shots on goal (five by Lyndi Shepard), while Maranatha finished with seven.
The Eagles travel to Jacksonville, Illinois (just west of Springfield), on Saturday to take on MacMurray College at 2:00 p.m. The Highlanders are 1-4.
