The Incredibles: Women’s Soccer Improves to 3-1
ANKENY, Iowa—Just call them "The Incredibles." The Faith Eagles women's soccer team made it a sweep for Eagles' athletics on a Pixar-themed Homecoming Saturday with a convincing 4-0 win over Eureka College. With the victory, the women improved to 3-1 on the season, and have looked, shall we say, pretty "incredible" in those wins.
Mr. Incredible (Coach Zack Barron) and his wife Katie, have done a magnificent job in their first season as coach of the Eagles, molding their family of superheroes into loveable winners.
Lyndi Shepard put the Eagles on the scoreboard with her first goal of the season at the 29:33 mark of the first half. Abby Zollinger, starring as Dash (with her ability to move at great speeds), added another goal two minutes later, giving the Eagles a 2-0 lead at halftime.
At the 55 minute mark of the second half, freshman Carrigan McCoid, starring as Jack Jack, (the youngest of the Eagles to score in the game) punched in the first goal of her collegiate career, giving the Eagles a comfortable 3-0 lead. Goalkeeper Aubree Smith was moved to the forward position in the second half and scored her second goal of the year at the 71-minute mark to give the Eagles a 4-0 lead which held up as the final score. The entire Eagles' defense starred as Violet (with the superpower of producing force fields), allowing just one shot on goal.
The superheroes return to their adventures with three challenging missions this week, all on the road. The Incredibles take on the Thunder of Manhattan Christian College (0-3) on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m., followed by the Sabercats of Maranatha (1-1) on Thursday at 2:00 p.m., and the Highlanders of MacMurray (1-3) on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
