Eagles Back in the Win Column with Victory Over Nebraska Christian
PAPILLION, Nebraska—These were the Eagles of the early season.
It's been a tough stretch for the Faith Eagles (5-5) women's soccer team, but they earned an important late-season win over Nebraska Christian (2-7) Monday afternoon in convincing fashion, 5-0.
It had been a full month since Faith won its last game. A slew of cancellations due to weather (four of them), injuries, and games against highly ranked competition from the end of September through most of October took the team out of its early season rhythm when they dominated their competition.
Faith jumped on the scoreboard early with a goal by Laura Christensen 6:28 into the first half. It was Christensen's fifth goal of the season.
The defense did its part throughout the afternoon and got some more help at the 23:47 mark when Jessica Frerichs scored her sixth goal of the season, making it 2-0, Eagles. Allison Yuan added a third goal for Faith just before halftime, giving the Eagles a comfortable 3-0 lead.
In the second half, Lydia Trygstad scored her third goal of the year, and Yuan added her third of the year as well, helping Faith to a 5-0 win. Faith managed 23 shots on goal compared to only three for Nebraska Christian.
With the regional tournaments next week in Watertown, Wisconsin, Monday's win couldn't have come at a better time. The Eagles have one regular season game remaining at #4 Maranatha on Saturday, so it was important for Coach Fritz's team to regain some confidence heading into the most important time of the year.
