EUREKA, Illinois—With an 11-1 victory over Eureka College (0-6) Thursday night, the Faith Eagles women's soccer team is off to its best start in school history with a 4-1 record.
This season marks the 15-year anniversary of Eagles women's soccer, and Coach Brandon Fritz's team is rewriting the record books. The Eagles have won four straight contests and its high-flying offense has outscored opponents, 30-3, during that stretch. Thirty goals through the first five games is also a new school record.
Faith got things rolling early in the contest with a goal by Lyndi Shepard at 6:01, giving the Eagles their first score and a 1-0 lead. It was Shepard's seventh goal of the season, a team-high.
Molleigh Adams-Freund answered four minutes later with the first of her three goals for the game, giving the freshman forward her first career hat trick as a Faith Eagle.
After an Allison Yuan goal made it 3-0, Jessica Frerichs scored the first of her three goals on the night, making it 4-0. It was Frerichs' second career hat trick.
Another goal by Adams-Freund made it 5-0, before Laura Christensen added two goals, making the score 7-0, but Eureka got their first and only score of the game at 37:20, to cut the deficit to 7-1.
After the break, the Eagles added four more goals (one by Adams-Freund, one from Amanda Kocurek, and two from Jessica Frerichs), and the Eagles completed the blowout of the Red Devils, 11-1.
Faith's next game is Monday, September 24, as they travel back to Mankato, Minnesota, to play Bethany Lutheran, which was rescheduled from the rainout on September 17. The Vikings (3-3) will be a tough matchup, fresh off a 1-0 victory at Buena Vista University.
