ANKENY, Iowa—The Faith Eagles women's soccer team won its third straight contest Saturday, battling the stifling heat for a 4-0 win over Iowa Wesleyan (0-3) on Homecoming.
With 19 goals through four games, the Eagles (3-1) lead the nation in scoring, averaging 4.75 goals per game. They also lead the nation in total goals and scoring margin.
After a slow start, the Eagles broke through at the 24:02 mark on a goal from Laura Christensen, assisted by Jessica Frerichs, putting Faith on top, 1-0.
A little over a minute later, Faith struck again, this time on an unassisted goal by sophomore midfielder Amanda Kocurek, putting the Eagles up, 2-0, which held up through intermission.
Following halftime, Kocurek added two more goals (56:07, 79:06), and the Eagles offense did a great job of controlling the ball most of the game. Faith managed 20 shots on goal, compared to just six for Iowa Wesleyan.
The Eagles have outscored its opponents, 19-2, during its three-game winning streak. They face a tough road test on Monday as they travel to Mankato, Minnesota to take on Bethany Lutheran (2-3), who defeated the nation's second-highest scoring team, North Central University, by the score of 3-2 in overtime last week.
