ALTOONA, Iowa—There was plenty of lightning from the Faith Eagles offense, but no thunder in response from Manhattan Christian (0-3) Friday afternoon, as the Eagles (1-1) rolled to their first victory, 7-0.
After a tough road game in the Twin Cities Thursday evening and a late trip back to Ankeny, Faith shook off some early rust with a goal by Jessica Frerichs at the 9:24 mark. After 25 minutes without a score, the offense found its legs late in the first half with scores from Abby Zollinger and Laura Christensen to take a 3-0 lead into halftime.
The Eagles picked up the second half right where they left off, striking early and often with four goals in a span of 13 minutes. Jessica Frerichs scored her second goal of the game at the 50:45 mark, followed by goals from Lyndi Shepard, Lydia Trygstad, and Shepard again. Trygstad's goal was the first goal of her collegiate career. Manhattan Christian managed only one shot on goal the entire game.
The ladies have a chance to rest their legs for a few days before a road trip to Lincoln Christian (0-1) in Lincoln, Illinois on Thursday, followed by a Homecoming match on Saturday versus Iowa Wesleyan (0-1) at 1:30 p.m.
