ST. BONIFACIUS, Minnesota--The Faith Eagles women's soccer team (0-1) began their season with a loss on the road against Crown College (2-0), in St. Bonifacius, Minnesota, Thursday evening.
The Eagles came out strong and played even for a majority of the first half. A miscommunication on defense led to a score by Crown College and minor injuries and exhaustion eventually took its toll as the first half came to an end with the Eagles trailing by just a goal, 1-0.
Injuries and exhaustion continued to plague the Eagles in the second half and Crown took advantage, blitzing Faith for four second-half goals. The Eagles fell, 5-0.
Goalkeeper Kallie Gibson had a busy night on defense. She posted 22 saves against a relentless offensive attack from a fast and physical opponent. Crown had 32 shots on goal, compared to just nine for Faith.
Overall, the team showed great teamwork, communication, and flexibility as many were in new positions for this game. Faith will try to get into the win column on Friday afternoon with a home game against Manhattan Christian at Spring Creek Park in Altoona.
