Frerichs Scores Four, Women's Soccer Defeats Iowa Wesleyan
The Faith women's soccer team took on DIII opponent Iowa Wesleyan College at home this past Tuesday. The Eagles scored three goals in each half while holding the visiting Tigers scoreless to record their first win and shutout of the season. Faith is now 1-3-1 on the year.
The Lady Eagles came out putting pressure on the Lady Tigers right from the start of the game. Jessica Frerichs scored the first goal of the match sixteen minutes in on a nice follow up shot after the Iowa Wesleyan keeper bobbled a shot from the Lady Eagles. Faith would score again in the 37thminute as Kimberly McDaniel struck a beautiful half volley over the keepers head after a failed clearance by Iowa Wesleyan off a corner kick. Just two minutes later Jessica Frerichs would push the lead to 3-0 on a nice unassisted effort. The Lady Eagles were able to stop attacks made by Iowa Wesleyan in the first half to give Faith a 3-0 lead going into halftime.
The second half started much the same way that the first half did as Jessica Frerichs had her third goal of the match off a nice through ball between the Iowa Wesleyan defense, finishing it low past the keeper giving Faith a 4-0 lead. In the 70th minute Rebekah Stilwell would score her first goal of the season off a volley placed nicely past the keeper. Jessica Frerichs would score her fourth and the final goal of the game three minutes later as she reached out to toe poke it past the keeper with the defense closing in on her.
Faith finished the game with 36 total shots, including 17 on goal, while limiting the visitors to just a single shot. The Lady Eagles will travel up to Rockford, IL for their next match against NCCA III opponent Rockford University on Saturday, October 8, at 2:00 PM.
