Women's Soccer Season Review
The Faith women's soccer team ended their season with a 3-9 record. Although it was not a winning season the team competed hard, and were close in many games that they lost. This season was plagued with injuries as there was only one game in which every member of the team was available to play. Despite the injury status of the team many players stepped up, and learned new roles and filled in nicely for those who were injured.
There was a good mix of upper classmen and freshmen on this year's team. The Lady Eagles returned eight players from the previous year, and had nine freshmen make up the rest of the team. The biggest question the Lady Eagles faced at the beginning of this year was who was going to play goalie? With no one on the team having any keeper experience, goalie coach Lindsie Arneson tried out a few different players. Laura Sturgis became the best candidate for the job, and was willing to accept the challenge and work very hard all season to learn and improve at the keeper position. She finished the year with 91 saves, and had 1 shutout. Senior Kirsten Passwaters and freshmen Missy Jones and Holly Shepard all tied in total points for the team this year. Holly Shepard led the team in scoring this year with 4 goals as an outside midfielder.
In the regional tournament the Lady Eagles were matched up against the North Central University Rams. Despite losing to the Rams 3-0 in the teams' regular season match-up the Lady Eagles came out pressing the Rams hard right from the kick-off. There were a few opportunities for the Lady Eagles to score in the first half, but they could not connect with goal. Both of the Rams goals were scored early in the first half. Most the game was played in the midfield with both teams having equal possession of the ball, but the Rams prevailed and won the match 2-0. Kirsten Passwaters, Hannah Nichols, Holly Shepard, and Betsy Wiedemeier were voted to the all-region team this year. The Lady Eagles are losing a few seniors, but are looking forward to next season.
