The Faith Lady Eagles soccer team earned their second win of the season today as they defeated visiting Iowa Wesleyan College 3-1. Faith is now 2-3-0 on the year.
As they did Saturday, the Eagles jumped on the board early, with Holly Shepard scoring on the rebound to give the Eagles a quick 1-0 lead eight minutes into the game. Faith controlled the game for the entire half, but it took 26 minutes to crack the Wesleyan defense again. This time it was Missy Jones scoring off of a nice pass from Kirsten Passwaters for the 2-0 Faith lead. Five minutes later, Shepard got loose down the right side and put a well placed shot over the Tigers keeper for the Eagles third goal of the game. Faith led by that 3-0 lead at the break.
Wesleyan came out renewed to start the second half, putting pressure on the Faith defense and finally breaking through in the 60th minute for their lone goal of the game. Both teams had chances throughout the rest of the second half, but neither team could capitalize as the Eagles came away with the 3-1 victory.
Faith out shot the visitors 15-4, and Eagle's keeper Laura Sturgis recorded three saves on the day. The Eagles hit the road on Friday for a road trip to Rockford College, which will kick off at 4 PM. Faith was to play at Robert Morris - Lake County on Saturday, but that game has been cancelled by Robert Morris due to low roster numbers.
