Homecoming Performance Record Setting for Lady Eagles Soccer Team
The Lady Eagles soccer team achieved a record tying performance in front of an enthusiastic Homecoming crowd Saturday. The Lady Eagles tied the school record for most goals in a game as they scored eight goals in the their shut out win of visiting Robert Morris College - Peoria. The 8-0 victory pulls the Lady Eagles even at 2-2-0 for the season, and gives keeper Tayler Marinez her second consecutive shut out for the season.
Faith got on the board early when Kirsten Passwaters rifled a shot past the Robert Morris keeper 10 minutes into the game. The game remained a 1-0 lead for the Lady Eagles over the next 20 minutes, but Faith's relentless pressure finally began to pay off in the 30th minute. During the next 10 minutes, the Lady Eagles would score four goals to blow the game wide open. Grace Kudlo got things started in the 32nd minute when she put one in the back of the net off an assist by Krista Peters. The assist by Peters was the start of a huge game for Krista. Two minutes later, Elizabeth Hemsworth broke away from the pack to give the Eagles a 3-0 lead, but Faith was just getting started. In the 36th minute it was Dani Paup driving the ball past the keeper, and in the 39th minute Krista Peters got in on the scoring, adding the fifth and final goal of the half for the Eagles.
The 5-0 lead at the half wasn't enough for the quickly improving Lady Eagles, though, and in the 63rd minute, Kudlo, who started the scoring frenzy for the Eagles, found the net again. Five minutes later, Peters scored her second goal off an assist by Hannah Nichols, and two minutes after that, Peters recorded her first career hat trick with her third goal, assisted by Abby Vertican. The Lady Eagles spent the next 20 minutes giving everyone an opportunity to gain some valuable game experience, holding Robert Morris scoreless and recording the 8-0 win.
Tiffany Stupka, Passwaters, Nichols, and Vertican all finished with one assist in the game. Passwaters, Hemsworth, and Paup each netted one goal. Kudlo finished with two goals, while Peters finished her career game with three goals and two assists.
