Women's Soccer Avenges Early Loss, Defeats Visiting Grace University
The Lady Eagles soccer team avenged their season opening 0-2 loss to Grace University today, as they notched their first win of the season with a 1-0 victory. The win puts the Lady Eagles at 1-2-0 on the season.
The Lady Eagles battled a strong southwest wind in the first half, but were able to repel several attacks by Grace to keep things even at 0-0 at the break. Despite the wind, the Lady Eagles were actually able to outshoot Grace 7-6 in the half, a precursor of things to come. With the wind at their backs in the second half, the Lady Eagles mounted several attacks to begin the half, with Grace Kudlo finally able to break throught the Lady Royals defense. Kudlo dribbled around two defenders, then passed the ball past the Grace keeper to give the Lady Eagles the 1-0 lead. Faith would have several opportunities throughout the rest of the half, but could not extend the score. Tayler Marinez would not be denied her first career shut out in goal, though, as she saved the only two shots Grace was able to put on goal in the second half, and the Lady Eagle won 1-0. Faith outshot Grace 12-8 in the game.
Faith will be back in action on Saturday, September 14, at 11:00 AM when they will take on Robert Morris - Peoria. The Lady Eagles split their games with Robert Morris last season. The game will be part of the Eagles Homecoming festivities. All alumni are invited back to campus for the weekend, with special events running Friday night through Saturday evening.
