JOPLIN, Missouri—The Faith Eagles women's basketball team fell to Barclay, 76-65, in the opening round of the MCCC Tournament despite a great scoring performance from Lyndi Shepard and another great rebounding effort from Rachel Kleczka, who broke the single-season record for rebounding at Faith.
Faith kept things close through halftime, trailing by just three points, but Barclay outscored the Eagles 19-11 in the third quarter to build a gap that would prove too much for Faith to overcome.
Lyndi Shepard had a game-high 29 points for the Eagles, connecting on 11-of-22 shot attempts (5-of-9 from three-point distance). Rachel Kleczka needed 15 rebounds to set the all-time mark for most rebounds in a season at Faith, and broke it with 17.
The Eagles struggled to maintain possession of the basketball, turning it over 24 times, which led to 28 points for Barclay.
Faith plays at 10:00 a.m. on Friday in the consolation bracket.
