Kleczka Breaks Rebounding Record in Win over Union
ANKENY, Iowa—Faith freshman forward Rachel Kleczka broke the school record for most rebounds in a game Tuesday evening in a 65-39 win over Union College. Kleczka pulled down 31 rebounds, breaking the old mark of 29, set by Laura Garwick in 2014.
Kleczka played a team-high 34 minutes and added 14 points to go along with her 31 rebounds, her third consecutive double-double and fourth of the season. She is averaging 14.4 rebounds per game—tops in the nation in NCCAA Division II.
Despite a tough night shooting (22.2 percent from the field), the Eagles led throughout and used a strong third quarter to distance themselves from the Warriors, whom they lost to earlier this season. Michaela Crider led all scorers with 21 points and added 14 rebounds of her own. Makenna Laib continued her nice progression through her freshman season, adding 12 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 steals. Lyndi Shepard (9), Anissa Greiner (7), and Morgan Stephens (2) rounded out the scoring for the Eagles.
The win marks the first time this season the Eagles have won back-to-back games, improving their record to 3-9 on the year. Faith returns to action Friday evening with a game against Calvary University at 5:00 p.m. in Ankeny.
