Kleczka’s 16 points and 19 rebounds not enough for Lady Eagles
ANKENY, Iowa—A good first half for the Faith Eagles women's basketball team was an encouraging way to start the post-Christmas basketball schedule, but a 34-point third-quarter outburst by Ozark Christian was too much for Faith to overcome in an 81-54 loss.
The Eagles kept things close for the majority of the first half, trailing by just three at the end of the first quarter and by only five at halftime. Rachel Kleczka and Michaela Crider had the hot-hand for the Eagles scoring 12 points and 10 points each in the first half.
The third quarter was where things really fell apart for Faith as Ozark Christian's Adreonna Hughes exploded for 13 points on 6-of-6 shooting. Her teammate, Jessica Watson, was nearly as deadly, scoring 9 points on a perfect 4-4 shooting in the quarter. Hughes led all scorers with 23 points for the game.
The Eagles got one of the finest performances of the season from freshman Rachel Kleczka, who finished with 16 points and 19 rebounds (nine offensive). Kleczka is averaging 12.7 rebounds per game.
Faith (1-9) returns to action Saturday afternoon against Central Christian College (4-9) at 2:00 p.m. in Ankeny, weather permitting.
