Crider’s Double-Double Not Enough for Eagles
ANKENY, Iowa—Michaela Crider poured in 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, and freshman Rachel Kleczka secured a career-high 13 rebounds, but it wasn't enough, as the Eagles fell to 0-3 with a 67-50 loss to Kansas Christian Thursday evening in Ankeny.
The two teams played nearly evenly in the second half, but it was the first half that was the difference in the ballgame. The Eagles fell behind 10-3 early in the first quarter after some hot three-point shooting and several Faith turnovers.
The second quarter was the dagger quarter for the Eagles as they went scoreless for a seven-minute stretch. The number 16 was not sweet for Faith (stuck on it for seven minutes), as Kansas Christian built their lead to 33-16 before Bekah Smith's jumper ended the drought with 1:21 to play in the half.
The Eagles played inspired defense to start the third quarter, holding KCC scoreless the first two minutes, and to just two points in the first four minutes. Kansas Christian's defense did enough to hold Faith at arm's length, however, not allowing the Eagles to get within eight the rest of the game.
Faith struggled to shoot the ball for the third straight game, shooting just 26.7% from the floor (1-of-9 from three). The Eagles did a great job of hitting the glass, outrebounding Kansas Christian 71-40. Turnovers continued to plague the young team as well with 41 miscues.
The Eagles return to action Friday night against Providence University at 6:00 p.m. as part of the Faith Classic weekend tournament. The Pilots are 2-2.
