BELTON, Missouri—It's hard to win if you can't put the ball in the basket, and that's exactly what plagued the Faith Eagles women's team this weekend in Belton, Missouri as they lost both rounds in the Midwest Christian College Conference Tournament, which was won by the Emmaus Eagles for the third time in four years.
Versus Calvary
Things started rough for the Eagles in their opening round matchup against the Calvary Warriors as they fell into a 17-0 deficit to start the game. Faith made just two baskets in 18 attempts in the first quarter. The second quarter was much more respectable for the Eagles, but they still trailed 36-17 at halftime.
Calvary used a hot-shooting third quarter to bury the Eagles into an even larger deficit, canning 10 of 16 shots, including 5 of 9 from behind the arc. It was a 28-point quarter for the Warriors, and they put it into cruise control from there, winning by the score of 79-42. Faith had just one player in double figures in scoring with Karina Fritz, who finished with 11 points. The Eagles shot just 26.8% for the game.
Versus Manhattan Christian College
The Eagles moved to the consolation bracket for Saturday, but fell into another large hole early on against the Manhattan Christian College Thunder.
The Thunder jumped to a 24-5 first quarter lead thanks to a 14 point outburst by Maisie Schroeder, who made three of her five three-point attempts in the opening frame. The Eagles actually outscored the Thunder, 15-6, in the second quarter and trailed by just ten at halftime.
Unfortunately, for the Eagles, Manhattan Christian started the third quarter the same way they started the game, torching Faith for 20 points to stretch their lead to an insurmountable 24 points heading into the fourth quarter. The final score was 68-38. Despite the blowout, Michaela Crider had a fine performance with 19 points and 7 rebounds.
Crider and Fritz Earn Conference Honors
During the weekend's conference activities, two Eagles earned recognition for their performances on the court. Michaela Crider earned Second Team All-Conference honors, while Karina Fritz was named All-Conference Honorable Mention.
