Women's Basketball Season Review
The 2017-2018 women's basketball season was a season of remarkable improvement for the women's basketball program. The 11 win mark that the ladies were able to achieve was the program's second most wins in the last 10 years. Additionally, their upsets of higher seeded teams in the conference and regional tournaments allowed them to earn a 3rd place finish in the conference tournament, and advance to the regional tournament semi-finals for the second time in the past 10 years. The Eagles were able to attain those accomplishments in the midst of a strong schedule, which featured a third of their games against NCAA or NCCAA II ranked opponents, and many games without players due to injury, illness, etc. "What a great season for the ladies to have! It was a privilege to be a small part of this season. Despite only having one returner and having to work through many games with teammates out due to injury or illness, the ladies persevered and worked hard to improve and be competitive by season's end. What an accomplishment to do just that! They showed flashes of what they can become in games with Manhattan Christian and Emmaus Bible, both teams that advanced to the national tournament. The ladies were able to hold leads in both of those games! I'm very excited to see what they can accomplish going forward," noted Coach Fincham.
The team was recognized for their excellent spirit and attitudes by the other teams in the conference as they were selected for recognition as the recipients of the sportsmanship award. Additional post-season awards included MCCC 2nd Team All-Conference and NCCAA 2nd Team All Region for Lyndi Shepard. Shannon Steffen was an ACCA and NCCAA Scholar Athlete as well as an MCCC All Conference and NCCAA II All Region Honorable Mention selection. Bekah Smith received recognition as an NCCAA All Region Honorable Mention selection.
