Faith Comes Back in Late Minutes
The Lady Eagles' were in a hard-fought battle this past Saturday with the Falcons of Kansas Christian College. While Faith played the majority of the second half a man up, they were not able to take control of the lead until the 3 minute mark, when they finally jumped in front and just edged KCC 58-55.
Faith's offense got off to a slow start in the first half, as they shot a mere 5-49 from the field. Kansas Christian's shot percentage was not much better in the first quarter, but they did have more shots fall in the second quarter, which led to a 28-16 advantage over the Eagles at the half.
At the beginning of the second half, Kansas Christian, who only had five players to start the game, had their post player receive her fifth foul, forcing them to play a man down the rest of the way. Despite being at a disadvantage, the Falcons held their own in the third and still ended the quarter with a double-digit lead. With KCC having another player with four fouls, the Eagles tried to drive inside more and draw her final foul, but poor decisions only resulted in several charge calls on the Eagles. The fourth quarter was when the Eagles finally capitalized on the opportunity. Faith began to pick up the Falcons with a press and forced turnovers that led to scoring plays. Outscoring Kansas Christian 27-14 in the final quarter was all the Eagles needed to earn the three-point victory.
Four of the Lady Eagles finished in double-digit scoring. Freshmen Michaela Crider and Bekah Smith both achieved double-doubles for the Eagles, each with 13 points and 12 and 16 rebounds respectively. Lyndi Shepard scored 8 points, and Mackenzie Hanson provided 10 points and 8 rebounds of the bench.
The Eagles will face a tough matchup when North Central University (Minneapolis, MN) comes to town on Tuesday, January 23.
