Cold Second Half the Difference for Faith
The Lady Eagles took on MCCC opponent Central Christian College of the Bible this past weekend. The Lady Saints were runners up at the NCCAA II National Tournament last year so the Lady Eagles knew they would have their hands full. Faith fought hard during the first half, but couldn't keep up in the second, falling by a final of 76-56. Faith is now 5-8 overall and 0-3 in the conference.
In the first quarter Faith stuck right with CCCB and matched their scoring as both teams struggled offensively. In the second quarter the Lady Eagles stepped up their defense and outscored the Lady Saints 19-12. With that run the Lady Eagles took a 2 point lead (37-35) into the locker room at halftime.
The second half started out well for the Lady Eagles as they were able to get the lead up to 5 points early in the third quarter, but just after the halfway point in the third quarter the Lady Saints took the lead 46-48 and would not look back the rest of the game. Despite some cold shooting in the later part of the third quarter Faith trailed only by 7 (48-55) going into the fourth quarter. The cold shooting would continue for Faith and CCCB was able to outscore Faith 21-8 in the final quarter of the game. The Lady Eagles would lose the game 76-56.
Holly Shepard led the way for Faith with 16 points along with 7 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals. Laura Garwick had 15 points and 9 rebounds. Shannon Steffen had 11 points. Ashley Pearson had 4 points and added a game high 13 rebounds. Kellie Warne also had 4 points and added 10 rebounds.
The Lady Eagles will take on NCCAA II opponent Crossroads College Tuesday night this week at 4:00pm.
