Lady Eagles Move to 2-1
The Lady Eagles collected their second win this season on Tuesday night beating Union College 48-42. Faith started the game with a defensive mindset to control the paint and contest Union's outside shooters. It paid off as Faith took a 15-8 lead by the end of the first quarter. The Lady Eagles defense would hold Union to only 19% shooting in the first half. Offensively Laura Garwick and Shannon Steffen led the way in the first half combining for 16 points That helped the Lady Eagles take a 29-16 lead into halftime.
The Lady Eagles played the third quarter much the same they did in the first half as they dominated in the paint. Forward Laura Garwick had 15 points and 15 rebounds, and caused a lot of problems for Union's post players. Forward Ashley Pearson also gave them problems and finished with 11 points and 9 rebounds. However, by the end of the third quarter Union started making things more difficult for the Lady Eagles on offense, and stepped up their defense. This carried over into the fourth quarter as the Lady Eagles only scored 6 points and allowed Union to get back in the game. Faith was able to hold off the Union run, though, winning by the final six point margin.
The Lady Eagles will play MCCC opponent Manhattan Christian College on Friday night at 6:00pm in the Faith Classic. Then they will turn around and play NCCAA II Grace Bible College on Saturday at 4:00pm.
