Track Team Sets New Personal Bests
The Faith track team traveled to Mt. Vernon, IA on Saturday, April 8, for a meet at Cornell College. The Eagles took advantage of the beautiful weather, and every individual who competed set a new season personal best in at least one of their events.
Due to injuries on the women's team, only Laura Christensen and Rebecca Reinertson competed at the meet, but both performed extremely well. Laura improved her times in both the 100 and 200, setting season bests in both events. Rebecca Reinertson set new personal bests in the 200, with a time of 28.93 and finishing 17th, and in the 400 as well, finishing in 14th place with a time of 1:05.4.
On the men's side, junior sprinter Joey Young set personal bests in both the 100 and 200, improving his time in the 100 to 11.99 and dropping a full second off his 200 time to end with a time of 24.23. Freshman Ronnie Murray also improved his time in the 200 by more than half a second for his season best. In what was his first meet of the season, Tanner Van Beek set a team-best time in the 400 at 54.42 and finished 19th. Willie Felderman also competed in the 400 and finished close behind Tanner with a time of 54.67. Freshman distance runner Ryan Hughes improved his time in the 1500 by over 3 seconds from last week's and competed in the 5,000 as well. Evan McKinney took 15th in the 400m hurdles and took over a second off his time from the previous meet. Jacob Kirkwood wrapped up competition for the Eagles by setting a new season best in the discus with a throw of 42.69 and finished 9th overall in the event.
Coach Sauser said, "It was a great meet all around! Having every single person on your team PR in at least one event is pretty incredible. There were lots of great efforts that we can continue to build on, especially with this being just our second meet of the season."
