Track & Field Participate in Season Opener
The Faith Track & Field team kicked off its season this past Saturday, April 1, at Central College in Pella, IA. The weather was surprisingly decent for the opening meet of the season, which made it an ideal day for competition. The Eagles' track roster experienced a boost this year with a total of twelve athletes, four women and eight men, competing in the meet on Saturday.
Jacob Kirkwood, returning for his sophomore year after placing 8th at Nationals last year in the shot put, got his season off to a strong start by placing 5th in the shot put with a throw of 14.07m. That throw was a personal best for Kirkwood and also set a new school record. Kirkwood also made finals in the discus, where his throw of 41.62m earned him 7th place overall.
On the track, many of the Eagles were experiencing their first collegiate track meet and performed well. Faith competed in the sprints with runners participating in the 100, 200, and 400. Freshman Ryan Hughes ran the 1,500, and Evan McKinney competed in the 400m hurdles. Because of the high participation in track this year, Faith was able to add two relay teams, a women's sprint medley and a men's 4 x 400 meter relay. Highlighting the performances on the track were freshman Cara Hodak, who placed 11th in the 200, followed closely by sophomore Rebecca Reinertson, who finished tied for 12th.
The Eagles compete again this Saturday, April 8, at Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, IA.
