Eagles Continue Tune Up for National Meet
The Faith Track & Field team headed north once again to Orange City for the Northwestern College meet bright and early on Saturday. It was sunny and warm, but the wind was relentless throughout the day. The sprinters enjoyed a nice tail wind coming down the home stretch straightaway, but the distance runners had to run through a fierce wall of wind on each lap.
Freshman Jacob Kirkwood had several excellent throws in the discus to start off the day. He set a PR with his second throw, measuring 44.19 meters! That incredible toss was enough for Kirkwood to finish in 8th place. Kirkwood then moved to the shot put ring where he threw the 16 pound ball 12.76 meters. Not a personal record for him, but still an excellent throw.
Sophomore Rebecca Reinertson was up next in the 100 meter dash, running the distance in 14.45 seconds, and Freshman Micah Cressey set another PR, completing it in 13.42 seconds. We were thankful that the event was not being run against the wind!
Freshman Wendy Busenitz then ran the 800 meter run, finishing in the middle of the pack with a time of 2:33. That was an amazing effort given the strong wind gusts she faced coming around the curve on each lap! Reinertson and Cressey didn't compete in the 200 or 400 events due to a high arch sprain and a sore knee respectively. Please pray with us for quick healing so they will be able to compete in our meet on Friday!
The last event for the Faith team was the Women's 3000 Meter Steeplechase. Busenitz ran the seven and a half lap race while hurdling barriers and jumping across / into a pit of water on each lap. She ran a tough race, finishing in 14:02.
Our final regular season meet will be this Friday at Simpson College in Indianola, IA. It will be a short meet for our team as we will be leaving in time to get the athletes back to Faith for the evening Spring Banquet. We would love to have you join us and cheer on the team!
