Eagles Compete at Red Raider Open
The Faith Track team competed in their second meet of the season in Orange City, Iowa, a Dutch community which is home to Northwestern College. The wind was incredibly strong, making it difficult to stand and cheer for the runners at times while they fought to push against it. Despite the weather challenge, each one ran remarkably well! This was Sophomore Cody Chaffin's first meet, and he started the men's competition with the 100 meter dash, finishing in a time of 12.39. Rebecca Reinertson and Emily Wolfe also ran the 100 meters in 14.07 and 13.99 respectively. Emily competed again right away in the 100 meter hurdles, with a time of 19.36.
Chris Brace's first race of the day was the 1500 meter run, which he completed in a time of 4:32. Chris drafted off of another runner for the first lap, then took the lead to set a faster pace for the next couple of laps, finishing strong in 3rd place in his heat of 21 men. Chris then had an hour to rest before his next challenging race of 800 meters. The racers were running close together due to the wind, and someone clipped Chris' feet on the first lap, sending him and 3 other runners crashing to the ground. Chris jumped back up with bleeding knees and scraped palms and finished the first lap with a split time of 65 seconds, and finished the 800 meters in a respectable time of 2:16.
The final races of the day for the Eagles were the mens' and womens' 200 meter dashes. Rebecca finished 3rd in her heat of 7 runners with a time of 28.8, and Cody finished second in his heat with a time of 25.07.
The entire team worked hard and competed well, doing their best for the Lord! We are looking forward to returning to northwest Iowa again next weekend for the Sioux City Relays. Please pray with us for recovery from injuries and a return to full health in the coming days.
