Bio

About Gary:

Gary re-joined the athletic staff in December of 2019 as the head men's soccer coach. Gary graduated from Buena Vista University with a BA in Criminal Justice and a minor in Exercise Science and Political Science. He then went on to earn his MS from the University of Cincinnati in Criminal Justice.

Gary most recently served at the Ames Soccer Club as a coach for the U12-U15 competitive girl's team, a team on which his daughter played. He also served as the club Speed and Agility Director.

Before coaching for the Ames Soccer Club, Gary was the head men's soccer coach at Faith (2008-2015). During that time, Gary became the schools all time leader in wins, led the team to the NCCAA II North Central Regional Championship (2015), the NCCAA II National Tournament (2015), and saw his team selected as the NCCAA National Tournament Sportsmanship recipients (2015). Gary was selected as the region coach of the year in 2008, 2014, and 2015. Gary also served previously as the head Track and Field coach at Faith.

Previous to coaching at Faith, Gary served as the Colo-NESCO high school boy's varsity coach from 2003-2010 and was also the assistant football coach there from 2004-2008.

Gary played collegiate soccer at Buena Vista University where he was selected as the team captain, a 1st Team All-Iowa Conference recipient, and a two time Academic All-Iowa Conference selection. Gary also participitated in Track and Field. 

Gary is active in a variety of ministries through his local church. He currently serves at Nevada Baptist Church as a deacon, and was the deacon board financial secretary for 6+ years. He serves on or oversees a variety of committees and ministries including the All-Stars Ministry, Awana Games, and the cleaning and hospitality committies.

Gary is married to his wife Naomi. They have two girls, Mia and Piper, and reside in Ankeny.
