ANKENY, Iowa—The Faith Eagles men's soccer team concluded the regular season portion of its schedule on Saturday with a 4-1 loss to Maranatha. With the loss, the Eagles fell to 8-10, but were 4-1 in conference play as they enter the MCCC Conference Tournament in Dubuque on Thursday, October 31.
Faith fell behind early on a pair of defensive miscues. Maranatha forward Zeke Steuerwald took advantage on both occasions—once at the 6:35 mark of the first half, and again at the 13:40 mark. The defense regrouped and held its ground until Maranatha scored its third goal of the half with under five minutes remaining.
The Eagles played much better in the second half, holding the Sabercats to a 1-1 score. Chase Clark scored the only goal of the game for the Eagles at the 63:56 mark, but it was too little, too late for Faith.
Overall, the game was much more competitive than the final score indicated. Faith finished with 11 shots on goal compared to 13 for Maranatha.
Faith awaits its schedule for the conference tournament this weekend where they will have a chance to claim a conference title prior to hosting the regional tournament November 7-9.
