ANKENY, Iowa—The Faith Eagles men's soccer team earned its third consecutive victory on a gorgeous fall Saturday afternoon with a close, well-played, 2-1 win over Emmaus.
The Eagles defeated Emmaus on their own turf, 4-1, earlier in the week, so Emmaus was hungry for revenge and played neck and neck with Faith for the entire 90 minutes.
After 36 minutes of scoreless play, Isaac Mosher slid a goal past Emmaus goalie Jacob Bauder to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead, which held through halftime.
Midway through the second half, Emmaus tied it at one apiece with a goal by Carson McBain. Emmaus seemed to have the momentum at that point and kept the ball on the offensive side of the field more often than Faith preferred.
With just under five minutes remaining, Jacob Stilwell took a pass from Noah Zollinger and kicked it past the Emmaus goalie for the game-winning goal. Faith's defense held, and Jason Conable saved a shot at the buzzer to preserve the victory for Faith, who improved to 7-8 with the win.
The Eagles head to Lincoln, Nebraska, on Monday to face Nebraska Christian College at 3:30 p.m.
