Men’s Soccer Loses in Double OT on Senior Night
ANKENY, Iowa—It was just "one of those nights" for the Eagles. After falling behind 2-0, then rallying to tie it, Faith couldn't get over the hump in a hard-fought, but disappointing 3-2 loss to a short-handed Nebraska Christian team in double overtime. The Eagles fell to 5-5 with the loss, which halted their two-game winning streak. Prior to the game, Faith honored its two seniors: Chase Clark and Andrew Young.
Nebraska Christian struck first with a fast-break down the left seam by Hezron Onchomba, who was simply too fast for the Eagles' defense to catch up with. The difference in the game though came on a penalty kick late in the first half which put the Sentinels up 2-0 and put the Eagles in a tough spot.
Faith came out much more focused and aggressive in the second half and cut the lead to 2-1 off a Chase Clark goal at the 57-minute mark. Thirteen minutes later, the Eagles tied it on a Josiah Zollinger kick, and the Eagles had all the momentum with twenty minutes to play.
Faith had four more chances to gain its first lead, none better than a shot by Chase Clark at the 85-minute mark, which couldn't quite find its way to the net. The defense held late, forcing the first overtime of the year for the Eagles.
The Eagles outshot the Sentinels 3-2 in the first overtime with a pair of extremely close plays but were unable to get the winning goal through the net, sending the game to a second overtime.
It looked like the Eagles were going to win the game early in the second overtime off a fantastic shot to the upper part of the net by Isaac Mosher, but the Sentinels goalie made a spectacular play to keep the game tied. With less than five minutes to play, Nebraska Christian lined up for a corner kick and placed a ball that lingered too close to the net for an instant too long. In a flash, Onchomba scored his second goal of the game, winning it for the Sentinels.
