LINCOLN, Nebraska—The men's soccer team ended their four-game losing skid Thursday night in the final game of the regular season. Kind of.
The Eagles were on the road at Union College (5-3) in Lincoln, Nebraska, and finished with a 1-1 tie against the Warriors in double overtime, a team the Eagles defeated earlier in the season, 5-2. It was Faith's second double overtime game of the year, both of which resulted in tie scores.
Faith and Union played to a 0-0 tie at the intermission, with Eagles' goalie Daniel Moore saving six shots on goal in the first half. Faith managed just two shots in the first half; none on goal.
The Eagles got their first shot on goal early in the second half, and finally got one through the net at the 60:28 mark on a goal from Nathan Stupka. The Faith defense held its ground all the way until the 83-minute mark when Union College answered with an unassisted goal, making it a 1-1 game. Daniel Moore came up with another big save with two minutes remaining, and the game went to overtime.
Faith was unable to get a shot off in the first overtime, and both of Union College's shots missed as well, sending the game to a second and final overtime. Playing more aggressively on offense, the Eagles just missed on several opportunities, outshooting Union 4-2 in the final frame.
The month of October has been rough on the Eagles' offense, as they've managed just two goals in six games, resulting in a record of 0-4-2 for the month. Faith finishes the regular season with a record of 6-6-2.
The Eagles head to the MCCC Conference Tournament next weekend in Haviland, Kansas, with game times and opponents to be determined.
