ANKENY, Iowa—The Faith Eagles men's soccer team continued its late-season slide Saturday afternoon, losing a hard-fought 2-0 battle against Maranatha on Senior Day in Ankeny. The loss was third straight for the Eagles, dropping their record to 6-5-1 overall.
The offense was held scoreless for the third time in four games and continues to be the biggest puzzle for Coach Sauser to solve before conference tournament play begins in two weeks. The Eagles managed just two shots, one on goal, in 90 minutes of action against Maranatha. Faith has been outshot 71-11 over the last four games.
Other than a ten minute stretch in the first half, Faith's defense held its ground. The only two scores of the game came from Maranatha at 24:31 and 34:33 in the first half. Maranatha's first goal was assisted by Joel Shepard, the brother of Faith women's soccer star Lyndi Shepard (more on that in a later piece).
The Eagles honored Caleb Sturgis before the game as its only senior on Senior Day.
Faith has just two games remaining in the regular season. Their next contest is at William Penn (11-3) at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
