ANKENY, Iowa—It was over in 26 seconds. Unlike the Eagles' last game that went 110 minutes without a score, Thursday's men's soccer game against second-ranked Providence was over in the game's first 26 seconds.
Before the Eagles could even break a sweat and before the crowd could even get settled into their seats, Providence was on the scoreboard off an unassisted goal by Herby Magny. It turned out to be the only goal the Pilots would need, as they went on to win, 3-0. Faith's offense has now been shut out for 200 straight minutes.
Providence answered again at the 22:15 mark in the first half off a one-on-one fast break by Devin Vermette, and added a third score at 30:37 to take a commanding 3-0 lead into intermission.
Faith managed just two shots the entire game (zero on goal), compared to 20 for Providence (nine on goal). The defense held their own in the second half, keeping the Pilots off the scoreboard the full 45 minutes.
With the loss, the Eagles fell to 6-3-1 on the season. They conclude a busy week of soccer, and the end of a three game stretch against ranked teams, on Saturday with a 12:00 game against North Central. North Central is ranked #4 in the nation, and the game will be played at Pyche Field in Ankeny, weather permitting.
