JOPLIN, Missouri—The Faith men's soccer team pulled off dramatic wins on back-to-back days during a two-day swing through the Show Me State this weekend. The Eagles showed they could handle adversity, on the road, in high-pressure situations.
On Friday evening, the men traveled to Kansas City to take on Calvary University, the same team they defeated a week ago for Homecoming, 3-0. Goals were at a premium in this one though, as the Warriors buckled in and guarded their home turf with a stingy defense. The Faith defense was equally as stingy, and the two teams battled to a 0-0 tie at the end of regulation, sending the game to overtime. Seven minutes into the overtime period, Faith freshman Josiah Choi scored his first career goal, giving the Eagles the 1-0 victory.
The Eagles continued their conquest of the state of Missouri on Saturday as they journeyed deep into Ozark country to take on Ozark Christian College (0-4). The Eagles found themselves behind nearly the entire afternoon, but consistently dug deep to keep it close. Ozark Christian got its first goal at 15:51 to make it 1-0, and the Eagles were unable to answer before halftime.
Faith has been a second-half team most of the season, and they continued that trend, getting a game-tying goal from Cole Glanzer at the 56:08 mark. Less than four minutes later, the Eagles found themselves behind again, after a goal from Ozark Christian's Colton Leinbach, making it 2-1.
Midway through the second half, Faith tied it once more, off a goal from Jason Conable, his first of the season. The Eagles capitalized off their momentum ten minutes later with a go-ahead goal from Andrew Baldwin, making it 3-2, Eagles. Ozark Christian had two more shots on goal in the final fifteen minutes, but saves by Daniel Moore helped secure the 3-2 win, giving the Eagles their third straight win.
With three goals after intermission against Ozark Christian, the Eagles have now scored 14 of its 20 goals in the second halves of games.
Faith returns home for a contest against Union College (4-1) at Pyche Field on Friday. Game time is 4:00 p.m.
