EUREKA, Illinois—The Faith men's soccer team lost a heart-breaker on the road Thursday evening to Eureka College in double overtime, 4-3. The winning goal by the Red Devils came with less than two minutes to play before the game would have resulted in a tie.
Eureka forward James Bowen scored the game-winner on a loose ball near the Eagles net. It was the second goal of the game for Bowen, who also scored the first goal of the game at the 13:54 mark of the first half, giving Eureka a 1-0 lead.
The loss spoiled a great statistical night for Eagles forward Chase Clark, who finished with the hat trick. Clark scored the first of his three goals at 27:43, evening the score at one apiece. His second goal tied the game again, 2-2, at the 63:56 mark. After the Red Devils quickly regained the lead, 3-2, Clark struck a third time, with time winding down in the second half. His third score tied the game at three each, which sent the game to overtime where the Eagles would eventually fall.
Eureka controlled the tempo of the game, and wore down the Eagles defense, getting 31 shots versus just 10 for Faith. Eureka improved to 3-1 on the season, while the Eagles dropped to 2-2. Faith returns home for Saturday's Homecoming matchup against Calvary University.
