ANKENY, Iowa—The Faith Eagles men's soccer team (2-1) started Homecoming Week with a 3-1 victory over Nebraska Christian (1-5) Tuesday afternoon on a beautiful, sun-drenched day in Ankeny. After last week's rain and game relocations, this was the first true home game of the year for the Eagles.
Faith got off to a slow start in the first half against an undermanned Nebraska Christian team that was playing with just ten players. Neither team was able to get on the scoreboard in the first half.
The Eagles finally broke through at the 52-minute mark on a sliding goal by Jordan Schmidt, assisted by Cole Glanzer, for a 1-0 lead.
Shortly after Faith's first goal, Zach Gomez broke loose for Nebraska Christian and tied the game 1-1 on a Sentinels fast break.
The score remained tied until the 72-minute mark when Isaac Mosher got the Eagles back on the scoreboard during a battle at the net, assisted by Jordan Schmidt.
Nine minutes later, the Eagles iced the game with another goal by Chase Clark, putting the Eagles up, 3-1, a score that would hold up as the final outcome.
The Eagles travel to Eureka, Illinois on Thursday to face the Eureka College Red Devils (2-1) before returning home for Saturday's Homecoming game against Calvary University at 3:30 p.m.
