ALTOONA, Iowa—The Faith Eagles men's soccer team (0-1) kicked off their season Thursday afternoon with a "home game" against Manhattan Christian College (1-2). The season opener was moved to Spring Creek Park in Altoona due to a waterlogged field at Faith after nearly seven consecutive days of rainfall.
Manhattan Christian controlled the ball and the tempo for most of the game and jumped to a 1-0 lead at the 11:42 mark on an unassisted goal by Drew Hill. The Thunder struck again seven minutes later to take a 2-0 lead, which held up through halftime.
The Eagles got their first goal of the season on a fast break by Chase Clark shortly after intermission, pulling the team back within a goal. He was assisted by Cole Glanzer.
The teams played evenly most of the second half, but several missed opportunities offensively cost the Eagles a chance to tie the game. At the 84:07 mark, Manhattan Christian got another goal that effectively put the game out of reach for Faith.
Daniel Moore had a terrific game as goalkeeper for the Eagles, blocking 19 of the 22 shots on goal. It's a young Eagles team with five sophomores and two freshmen in the starting lineup. Two juniors and two seniors round out the starting 11.
The Eagles are back in action Friday morning against Barclay College at Spring Creek Park in Altoona.
