Eagles Re-Match #1 Ranked Kansas Christian
The Faith men's soccer team hit the road to Kansas City on Friday to take on Kansas Christian College Falcons for their final game of the 2017 regular season. The Falcons are currently the #1 ranked team in the NCCAA Top 10 and defeated the Eagles earlier in the season 4-0.
The game started out pretty even. Both teams were looking to attack and both teams had many build ups that looked to potentially be dangerous throughout the first half. Then in the 38th minute Kansas Christian opened the scoring with a cross that a Falcon's attacker snuck past the keeper to grab the 1-0 lead, which was how the half would end.
The Eagles, being very familiar to this situation having faced it against the same team just a week ago, came out in the second determined to not allow another goal and to get one back for themselves. The Eagles defense played some of the best soccer they had all season and were starting to look impenetrable. But, in the 72nd minute Faith had a miscue on defense, and Kansas Christian took full advantage. The ball rolled outside the top of the 18 yard box and a Kansas attacker took a strike from about 23 yards out that found its way to the top corner of the goal. The Eagles, however, answered just three minutes later when Joey Young found Jordan Schmidt to bring the Eagles back to within one. The comeback effort came a little too late, however, and the Eagles ran out of time to even the score and dropped another game to the top team in the nation with a score of 2-1.
The Eagles return to action this Thursday in the MCCC tournament in Joplin, Missouri taking on host Ozark Christian College at 3 PM. Considering how the Eagles have been progressing as a team lately they will be looking to contend for the championship and build some momentum going forward in post season play.
