The Faith Eagles returned to the field Saturday afternoon in a contest against Ozark Christian College (Joplin, MO). The game was a long battle, and while both teams had their fair share of chances to take the win, it ended in a 1-1 draw after going through two overtimes.
Ozark jumped on top first in the 15th minute when Nick Maxwell shot a slow roller that made it just past Faith's keeper. The Eagles struggled to create good passing and ball movement, which limited their offensive opportunities for the rest of the first half. Offsides calls also took away any scoring chances for Faith, and the Eagles found themselves trailing 0-1 to the Ambassadors at halftime.
Jordan Schmidt scored the equalizing goal for Faith midway through the second half. With the game tied 1-1 coming down to the wire, the Eagles locked down their defense and became more aggressive on offense, looking for the go-ahead goal. Faith took 7 shots on goal in the second half, while Ozark had just one. Unfortunately, the Eagles couldn't convert and would find themselves heading to overtime.
The intense heat played a factor in the extra minutes, as fatigue began to set in for both teams. Neither team would score in the first OT, resulting in a second overtime that also went on to be scoreless.
The tie moves the Eagles overall record to 3-1-1. Faith outshot Ozark 26-6 in the game. Their next game is a rescheduled home matchup against Grace University on Tuesday, September 26 at 4 PM.
