While still battling some injuries, Faith did benefit from gaining a couple of starters back against Central Christian College of the Bible this past Friday. Faith did have to shake off some rust however as some breakdowns in their marking on defense allowed CCB to strike first on a well played ball across the goal that led to a Saint's header and the early 1-0 lead.
Faith did respond as Joseph Frerichs scored on a great shot from outside the box that he curved into the back corner of the net. Faith gained confidence and would settle in to control most of the rest of the game scoring three more times before the end of the first half. Cole Glanzer lifted a nice touch shot over the keeper in the 21st minute to give the Eagles the lead for good. That goal was followed by two more from Josh Bray to give Faith the 4-1 lead at the half.
The second half scoring was opened up when Josh Bray created a break away and then played the ball across the goal to teammate Cole Glanzer for the goal. Faith followed that up about 10 minutes later with another goal from Joseph Frerichs. Josh Bray completed a hat trick with his third goal at the end of the 61st minute giving Faith the 7-1 lead. Faith was able to get everyone involved to finish the game and rounding out the scoring for the Eagles were goals by Oleg Orlov, Evan McKinney and Wes Shultz to give Faith the 10-1 victory.
"We struggled a little to get settled in defensively but once we did I thought we did some really good things. It was a complete team effort today and several guys came off the bench to give us a lift and help carry momentum."
Faith will return to action tomorrow against the #9 ranked Manhattan Christian Thunder.
