Injured Eagles Fall to Emmaus
The Faith Eagles squared off against the Eagles from Emmaus on Tuesday in a back and forth, highly contested game. Emmaus came out and controlled play early with sharp passing. Their teamwork paid off in the 25th minute as Emmaus created a dangerous situation that resulted in a well played shot into the net from Elijah Barsness. Despite struggling for much of the first half the Faith Eagles did manage to earn a corner kick in the closing seconds of the first half. With only nine seconds remaining Faith scrambled to get setup and Andrew Baldwin bent the corner kick into the goal to tie the game up at the half 1-1.
The momentum was short lived for Faith though as Emmaus came out in the second half and again created a dangerous situation as Sami Gitonga had a break away that led to a goal by Joe Olson. Faith did settle in as the second half wore on and did manage to regroup and finish the half with some aggressive play. They had several opportunities but unfortunately were unable to tie the game back up.
"Due to being banged up with injuries we asked a lot of some guys in the game today playing in different positions and new roles. We struggled with our composure and found it difficult to control things through the midfield. Credit Emmaus they played well as a team and fought hard for the win."
Faith gets right back on the pitch with back to back games this weekend against Central Christian College of the Bible and Manhattan on Friday and Saturday respectively. Faith will also look forward to a rematch with Emmaus next week.
