Men's Soccer Blanked by Barclay
The Eagle men's soccer team opened Midwest Christian College Conference play this past weekend by hosting Barclay College in what was also their homecoming match. Barclay took advantage of a single shot on goal during the first half for what would turn out to be the game winner as they held off Faith for a 1-0 victory. Faith is now 3-2-1 on the year and 0-1-0 in conference play.
The game was back and forth throughout the start of the first half and at about 25 minutes inBarclay capitalized on an opportunity where their forward managed to get behind the defense for an open shot on goal. The shot was deflected by goalie David Levy but unfortunately dribbled past for the game's only goal.
In the second half the Eagles dominated possession, outshooting Barclay 16 to 0, but despite their hard work were unable to even the game. "I thought the guys responded at halftime and took the challenge to keep fighting and had several opportunities in the second half but unfortunately we were unable to score. Certainly there are things we can take away from this game to help us get better and improve but as is sometimes the case in soccer hard work is not always rewarded with a goal and I felt bad for the guys that we didn't see one find the net in that second half."
Faith outshot Barclay 24-4 in the game, including 16-0 in the second half, but couldn't connect on any of their attempts. Despite the disparity in overall shots, Faith struggled to put shots on frame, with only eight of those 24 shots needing to be saved by the visiting keeper. The one goal by Barclay was the only shot on goal the Bears had in the entire game.
Faith is off all this week but will enjoy three home games Sept. 27 - Oct. 1st before heading back out on the road.
