Eagles Set to Defend Region Title
The 2016 men's soccer team hopes to carry with it the momentum from last year's team which made it to Florida and the national tournament. However, it will be a tough task to repeat as Region champs with the Region being reorganized to now include Maranatha Baptist University and Moody Bible Institute in addition to North Central University and Providence University College.
The team will benefit greatly from returning 11 players from previous seasons, including last year's captain Andrew Young. Joining him as a captain are juniors David Levy, Joseph Frerichs and Joey Young. These men will provide great leadership and experience that will be invaluable throughout the season and contribute significantly to the team's success.
Several new faces join the team this year as well and will bring some added depth and talent to several positions. Jackson Clark will join his brother on the team this year as a key contributor. Oleg Orlov, Andrew Baldwin, and Willie Felderman look to provide quality minutes for the team as well in their first season with the team.
The men look forward to opening play this weekend with back to back home games against BBC, MO and Lincoln Christian University.
New head coach Jordan Sauser had this to say about his team. "I am really looking forward to the season. I am thankful and feel fortunate to have such great leadership and experience on this team. Through the first couple weeks of the season the team has had a great work ethic, focus and energy. I appreciate already the team environment and positive culture that exists on this team."
