The Faith men's soccer team came away from their first road trip of the season with two important wins despite being without key contributors both days. Faith defeated Calvary Bible College 3-1 on Friday and then followed that up with a 2-0 win at Baptist Bible College (MO) on Saturday. Faith is now 4-0-0 on the year.
Their first match was Friday, 9/11/15, at Calvary Bible College (Kansas City, MO). The Eagles came out strong as they nearly scored in the first ten seconds but then struggled to find space inside Calvary's box to get quality shots. Early in the half the Eagles earned a penalty kick but Calvary's goalkeeper guessed the right direction and saved it. Despite out shooting their opponents 23-0 in the first half the score remained 0-0 at the break.
The second half was very similar to the first with Faith dominating possession but not getting quality shots until the 57th minute when another penalty kick was earned and Marcus Wilkes scored. Shortly after that Calvary won a ball near midfield and scored a great shot in transition leveling the game at 1-1.
The Eagles rebounded well as Joseph Frerichs was able to play a perfectly weighted ball that Chase Clark tapped in past the keeper in the 67th minute and one minute after that Clark rebounded a Nick Paine shot to put the game out of reach. Faith outshot Calvary 39-2 but only managed to finish with a 3-1 victory.
The following day the Eagles headed to Springfield, MO to play Baptist Bible College (BBC). The Eagles started slow and struggled to create many chances in the first half and were forced to repel a number of quality opportunities by the host. The game was 0-0 at the half.
The second half was controlled by the Eagles but there were a few dangerous situations caused by several very talented players from BBC. Faith was finally able to get on the board off an indirect free kick inside the BBC penalty box that Frerichs smashed into the side netting off an assist from Wilkes in the 71st minute.
After the goal the Eagles stared putting BBC under tremendous pressure as they had four shots go off the post in the final twenty minutes. The game was decided in the 80th minute when Cole Glanzer played a great pass across face of the defense for Frerichs to finish. The 2-0 victory moved the Eagles to 4-0 and set a new school record for most wins to start a season.
Faith heads to Lincoln Christian Tuesday for a rematch from the season opener before a homecoming match up with St. Louis Christian Saturday, 9/19 at 1:00pm.
