Men's Soccer Looking to Make History
The Eagle Men's Soccer team enters the 2014 post season hoping to make history as the second team in school history to earn a spot in the NCCAA II National Tournament. Before that, though, the Eagles are hoping to kick off their post season championship run with an MCCC Tournament championship Oct. 23-25. Faith will travel to St. Louis, MO, to participate in this year's tournament. The tournament features three teams ranked in the NCCAA Top 10, including #3 Barclay College, #6 Faith, and #8 Manhattan Christian. The year has already been historic for the Eagles, as they have been ranked in the Top 10 the entire season. Faith finished the regular season tied with Manhattan Christian as the runner up in the Conference.
Faith enters the tournament as the #3 seed after losing the coin toss to Manhattan. Faith will open the tournament with a 10 AM match against #6 seeded Central Christian College of the Bible. Faith defeated CCCB 4-3 during the regular season. A win in the quarter final will place the Eagles in a re-match with #2 Manhattan Christian College. The teams played for 110 minutes in early September with nearly identical scoring opportunities, but neither could finish, and the game ended in a tie. A win would send the Eagles to the championship vs. either Calvary Bible College, Ozark Chrisitian College, or Barclay College. Faith defeated Calvary twice this year (5-0, 4-0), defeated Ozark 3-0 last weekend, and fell to Barclay College in the final minutes of the second overtime the day after playing Manhattan Christian to a draw. Tournament details can be found here.
After returning home, the Eagles will hit the road the following Tuesday to travel to Minneapolis, MN, for the NCCAA II North Central Regional Tournament. Faith enters as the #2 seed after defeating #3 seed Providence University College 3-2 and dropping their game with #1 seeded North Central University 0-2. Faith will play their semi-final match with Providence at 3:15 PM on October 28. A win will put them in the championship against North Central on October 29 at 2:15 PM.
A regional championship will send the Eagles to the NCCAA II National Tournament in Kissimmee, FL, during the week of November 10-15. Should the Eagles come up short at regionals, they will travel to Joplin, MO, during the week of November 3-8 for the ACCA National Tournament.
