Men Jump on Emmaus Early, Win 4-1
The Eagle men scored eight minutes into their match with Emmaus Bible College, followed by another goal 10 minutes later to take a quick 2-0 lead this past Friday. Faith went on to win 4-1 over visiting Emmaus Bible College in front of a packed house. Faith is now 6-2-1 on the year.
It was Marcus Wilkes who broke through the Emmaus defense early, giving Faith a quick 1-0 lead. Faith's Tui Hunkin followed Wilkes goal up with one of his own 10 minutes later, a quick turning rocket of a shot that hit the underside of the crossbar before ending up in the back of the net. The Eagles then struggled with possession the rest of the half, creating some opportunites but failing to capitalize. Faith led 2-0 at the break, and out shot Emmaus 12-5 in the half.
The second half started similarly to the first, with Hunkin getting his second goal of the match eight minutes into the second half off an assist from Joseph Frerichs. Emmaus got behind the Eagle defense three minutes later. David Levy made a nice initial save, but the ensuing ricochet ended up at the feet of an Emmaus player who passed it into the net for a goal. Nine minutes later Joseph Frerichs scored for the Eagles pushing the lead back to three. From there the second half took on a similar look to the first, with Faith struggling witht their first touches and possession. Faith would have several more opportunities to score but didn't put anymore past the Emmaus keeper, who made several nice saves, and the Eagles won 4-1.
Faith outshot Emmaus 25-10 on the night and David Levy recorded five saves. Faith hits the road on Tuesday for a big game with region opponent North Central University. That game will determine the seeding for the upcoming NCCAA II Region Soccer Tournament, which North Central will host at the end of October. A win or a tie will give Faith the #1 seed and an important first round bye. That game will kick off at 4:15 PM.
