Men Draw with Defending Champs
The Eagle men battled it out with defending Conference champion and National Tournament qualifier Manhattan Christian college Friday afternoon, settling for a scoreless tie after 110 minutes. The game, played in sloppy conditions on a rain saturated and muddy field, featured the current #5 team in the nation in Faith, and the #8 team in Manhattan Christian. The Eagles remain unbeaten with the result, standing at 3-0-1 now on the year.
Faith controlled the game early on, earning several chances throughout the first half, but failing to capitalize. Manhattan created several opportunities as well, but Eagles goalkeeper David Levy and the back line of the Eagles denied each chance. Faith outshot Manhattan 9-7 in the half. It was Manhattan who came out dominant to start the second half, creating several of their own scoring opportunities, but were unable to capitalize. The momentum then shifted back to the Eagles and down the stretch it looked like Faith would finally crack the Manhattan defense. The Crusaders keeper, though, made some very nice saves to keep the game scoreless. In extra time, both teams had opportunities, but were denied by their opponents defender or goalkeeper to keep the game scoreless and the result a 0-0 tie.
Faith outshot Manhattan 21-19 in the game. David Levy recorded 12 saves in front of the net for the Eagles. Faith has a quick turn around, as they will face Conference leader Barclay College at 1 PM on Saturday.
