Men Fall To 8th Ranked Barclay
The Eagle men dropped a hard fought contest to 8th ranked Barclay College in the MCC Conference Soccer Tournament in Ankeny this past weekend. Faith falls to 9-8-1 overall, and earned a fourth place finish in the conference tournament with the loss.
Similar to the Eagle's game with 5th ranked Ozark Christian College the day before, the Eagles defense was pressed the entire game, but held strong throughout the first half. Despite being outshot 10-4 in the first 45 minutes, Faith remained tied at 0 with Barclay at the end of the half.
Barclay finally cracked the Eagles defense seven minutes into the second half when a shot ricocheted off an Eagle defender and into the net, giving Barclay a 1-0 lead. Barclay continued to press the Eagle's defense, but a counterattack by Faith's JJ Parkhurst allowed the Eagles to tie the game back up at one apiece when he was able to chip it over the charging Barclay keeper's head and into the back of the net. Unfortunately, just a few minutes later, Barclay's forward was able to score on a controversial break away when he was determined to be onside by the AR, retaking the lead. Barclay padded the lead in the 74th minute to remove any doubt from the win, and Faith fell 1-3.
Barclay outshot Faith 23-7 in the contest. Jason Scheps recorded 10 saves in the loss. Faith travels to Grace University on Tuesday for their final regular season tune up before hosting the regional tournament on November 8th. Faith will play North Central University at 3 PM, with the winner advancing to play top seeded Providence on the 9th, also at 3 PM.
